When your break becomes your brake

The Masked Millionaire writes about the youth who wants instant gratification and calls it their biggest obstacle.

I posted a comment there but it got me thinking. Don’t we daily come across people who just need a “break” to also taste the success that successful people experience? “If I could just win the lotto, I would do this, and this and that”, or “if they just give me a break at work, I could do this and that and the next thing” or “if I just had a bit of luck, I would be this and that of a more successful person”. Are you like that?

Could it be that the curse of humankind is that we want to be in another place or time or circumstances because it looks better than where I am. (No, I refuse to use the sucked dry expression of greener grass!)

Interesting phenomenon that the past was always better than the present and the future will always be better than the present.

Don’t treat the present like an orphan. It isn’t something that can be neglected because it has no value. The present is the only time you have available to realise your dreams and prove how successful you can be. The past can never return do be relived, so you missed out on that one. The present is strewn with promises that have no value because it will not be kept when you get to the future. Why not? Because you did not seize the present.

You need to seize the present to make it better than the past, and you need to seize the present to make the future better than the past. (If it sounds complicated, read it again)

While we spend our time in wishful thinking, waiting for our “break” becomes our “brake”, because waiting for our big break, puts the brakes on our ability to make things happen in the present that create success for the future.
