First of man’s problems
“It is the first of all problems for a man to find out what kind of work he is to do in this universe” – Thomas Carlyle, British historian and essayist.
Which, in my view, reflects the culture that we identify ourselves by what we DO, while we claim to be a society that values people for what they ARE. Which in turn points to a society that does not practise what it preaches or a society that lies to itself. And nowhere is it more prevalent than in politics.
Politics is the one human practice which illustrates best how people will vote for someone, while the same people will send him to the gallows five years later. Some observers will tell you that it has less to do with the voters changing their minds than the politician reneging on his promises.
But that view in return illustrates that politicians will promise whatever the people demand, because the people will vote for the promise that they demand. Which I believe has something to do with the habit that we mislead ourselves because we cannot live up to the expectations by which we judge other people.
I have a headache.
- See you next week
Speaking of headaches.
We are in the final processes of a new website for our community that will be something not seen in our city before.
This requires a lot of work to be done. This week I have to start loading content onto the site which will demand most of my day.
I will not blog every day and will just post every Monday morning at 01:00 (SA time. GMT+2) at least until we have this baby up and going. I may, however, at any time drop in and post should I have time or come across something that I think needs to be said. But those will all be short and sweet. The new site should have been operational at the end of May but was postponed to the end of June and now to the end of July. We will however postpone it even more if we are not completely satisfied with the site and the content. It is important that our project will wow the citizens of our city and we will do whatever we can (even postponing the launch again) to ensure that we offer our community something that will really benefit them.
See you next week and thanks for visiting and reading.
If you want to you can register by e-mail to receive a message when we go online with PolokwaneTopix.com as it will be called.
