Don’t judge others by your truth
It is not easy to judge others on merit. It is much easier to measure them by what you consider to be the truth.
The African Wild Dog hovers on the edge of extinction because man measured its behaviour in human terms. The “inhuman” way in which wild dogs were seen ripping pieces of flesh from their victim’s bodies while hunting, earned it the label of “savages” - and gave man a reason to hunt them into near extinction. Nobody ever compared their way of hunting with that of other hunters such as lions. Lions start eating their victim while it is still alive. I cannot recall ever hearing a call for the indiscriminate hunting of lions because they are vicious killers.
Wild dogs are most effective hunters and an example of the advantages of team work. Matriarchally organised, the way in which they care for their offspring, illustrates the advantages of collaboration in the survival of a group.
The fact that the wild dog nearly became extinct should be a warning to us that the attribution of human values and emotions to animals, often lead to more cruelty against animals.
Let animals be animals. That should allow humans time to work at being more human.
