Start networking
What would one call someone with whom you network after retrenchment?
Not all are friends, not all are business associates, and some you meet because you are referred to them or just walk into their offices. Not all are necessarily on your side.
The Reader’s Digest Wordpower dictionary gives the solution as a “networker” - someone who interacts with other to exchange information and develop contacts.
While I negotiated what I considered a fair compensation, I also needed to move on other fronts.
Everyone do this in his/her own way. I need to network, so I had breakfast with friends from a computer company.
We discussed an idea I had for a while. They will give me a cost estimation for the hardware, the software I will probably find in the open source environment and for the rest it turns out that I and my son (a computer programmer) have all the knowledge we need to pursue the idea should I wish to go on.
While typing this post, my computer hangs up and it turns out the memory is inadequate. I struggle but finish.
