I am out of a job

Consider this scenario:
You are a newspaper editor in a big publishing house. (http://www.sharedata.co.za/Data/000153/main.htm).
You anger a member of senior management because you differ from him on a matter.

More than two years later, he calls you in to tell you that he has all along been dissatisfied with your performance and gives you a choice: face an evaluation of your performance by a colleague who was involved in your initial criticism or take a silver kick under the butt, mistakenly known as a golden handshake.

He tells you that, even if the evaluation favours you, he still thinks you are not fit to do the job.

His first illustration of your incompetence is that the circulation of one of your papers are not rising. You challenge his illustration because you know he uses information selectively.

He then replies that it is not so much about the circulation but rather that you did not follow the company’s style for newspapers. It is the first word you hear of this style and you ask him to produce a style book which he can not.

He then says it is not so much about the style but rather that you did not follow basic editorial practise. You know that the so-called basic editorial practise is not followed in many of the group’s newspapers.

What do you do?

What I did firstly is start this blog: http://joblessjourno.blogspot.com/

In my next post I hope to be able to tell you what I did .
